I recently had the pleasure of taking an unforgettable trip to the sun-drenched haven of Goa. From stunning beaches to vibrant markets, my stay was an enchanting experience that took me by surprise.

Monsoon in Goa – a time when the lush green landscape comes alive with raindrops and the scent of wet earth fills the air. Setting out on a journey to experience this magical season, I boarded the Janshatabdi Express train from Panvel to Thivim. Little did I know that this trip would be a fascinating mix of rain-soaked adventure and breathtaking beauty.
The Scenic Train Ride:
The journey began when I boarded the Mao-Jan Shatabdi Express train from Panvel. Offering glimpses of charming villages, lush green fields and picturesque rivers, the train journey itself was a memorable experience. As the train moved on, I couldn't help but feel a sense of detachment from the hustle and bustle of city life, and slowly immersing myself in anticipation of what Goa had in store. The rhythmic sound of the train on the tracks seemed to be in sync with the patter of raindrops on the windows, creating a pleasant atmosphere. The journey was mesmerizing, with the passing scenery painted in various shades of green due to the monsoon rains.
My excitement reached its peak when I reached Thivim station at around 3 pm. The petrichor in the air heightened my senses as I anxiously set foot on Goan soil. Our first stop was the Treebo Trend Dona Eliza Hotel where we checked in and were greeted with warm hospitality and a comfortable ambiance. As the evening progressed, we could not resist the charm of the famous Calangute beach. The monsoon drizzle coupled with the sea breeze was an invigorating combination. The beach has a different charm during the rainy season due to less crowd and more intimate atmosphere.
Places Visited:
Exploring the Beaches:
Miramar beach, with its golden sand and swaying palm trees, was another monsoon marvel. The rains had lent a romantic aura to the place, making it a paradise for photographers. Next was Baga Beach, with its huts and vibrant energy, it was a joy to visit. The rain-soaked sand and the sound of the waves hitting the shore made it a surreal experience.
Delving into History:
No trip to Goa would be complete without seeing its historical treasures. The Aguada Fort, a colonial marvel, stood as a sentinel against the tide of time. The astonishing view of the sea from the ramparts of the fort was absolutely breathtaking, which was a testament to the ingenuity of the architects who built it.

No trip to Goa is complete without a visit to its churches. The Basilica of Bom Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, charmed me with its intricate architecture and its reverence as the final resting place of St. Francis Xavier.

The nearby Se Cathedral was tall and imposing, a symbol of Goa's spiritual heritage.

Spiritual Serenity:
In contrast, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church displayed a different kind of charm. Perched atop a hill, its pristine white facade and serene atmosphere offer a moment of peace amidst the bustling streets of Panaji.

Ideal Month for a Goa Visit:
Although Goa is a year-round destination, the best time to visit is from November to February. The weather is pleasant during these months, with cool temperatures and minimal rainfall. It is the ideal time to enjoy beaches, water sports and outdoor activities without the hassle of extreme heat or heavy rains. The peak monsoon season from June to September can be a great option for those who enjoy lush greenery and a serene environment.
Looking back, it was a brilliant decision to visit Goa during the monsoon season. The combination of traveling Jan Shatabdi Express, comfortable stay at Treebo Trend Dona Eliza and exploring various beaches and historical sites made it an unforgettable experience. This trip will forever be etched in my heart as a testimony to the beauty of the monsoon soul of Goa.
